I'm Alright

By Anne Wilkinson / Grimes

I am ill - or so I'm told
Only 28 years old
Popping pills night and day
To make these voices go away
Being trailed all round town
These soldiers really get me down
Schizophrenia is a curse
The public's perception couldn't be worse
They think we're mad, we probably are
A little understanding would go far
With my illness you're never alone
Hallucinations in the home
Electrical appliances seem to talk
A running commentary when I walk
Is it a stranger or is it a friend
These ghostly apparitions never end
Life is hard when you hear voices
It cuts your options it limits your choices
You cannot work and life is tough
Taking tablets is not enough
I get help and that helps me
But I'm all right - so are we
